Hurdle Hop Pause
Hurdle Hop Pause
Coaching Points
- Max Effort and Height: Emphasize maximum effort and height in each jump. Encourage the athlete to explode off the ground with power and intention, striving to achieve their highest possible jump.
- Pause for at Least 1 Full Second: After each jump, instruct the athlete to pause at the highest point of their jump for at least 1 full second. This pause helps develop body control, stability, and the ability to maintain balance at the apex of the jump.
- Avoid Countermovement: During the pause, remind the athlete to avoid any countermovement or preparatory motion before initiating the subsequent jump. This means they should not dip or lower themselves prior to jumping again. This coaching point helps develop explosive power from a static position and enhances the ability to generate force without a preliminary movement.
- Proper Body Position: Encourage the athlete to maintain proper body position throughout the exercise. Emphasize the importance of using the hips, glutes, and lower body muscles to generate power and drive the jump.
- Controlled Landing: Emphasize the importance of a controlled landing after each jump. Encourage the athlete to absorb the impact by bending the knees and using proper landing mechanics. This helps reduce the risk of injury and prepares the athlete for the subsequent jump.
