Coaching Points
- Proper Setup: Instruct the athlete to set up in a split stance with one foot positioned slightly forward and the rear foot elevated on a stable surface. Ensure the feet are hip-width apart and aligned with the hips and shoulders.
- Reactive Movement: Emphasize the reactive nature of the exercise. Instruct the athlete to quickly and explosively descend into the squat position, utilizing the stretch-shortening cycle of the muscles to generate power.
- Floating Heel: Encourage the athlete to keep the heel of the front foot lifted throughout the movement. This places more emphasis on the muscles of the working leg and increases activation in the glutes, hamstrings, and quadriceps.
- Drive Through the Big Toe: Instruct the athlete to focus on pushing through the big toe of the front foot during the ascent. This helps engage the muscles of the lower leg, including the calf complex, and promotes a more powerful and efficient movement.
- Triphasic Triple Stack: Remind the athlete to achieve the triphasic triple stack position, which involves proper alignment of the ankle, knee, and hip joints. The ankle should be stable and not collapse inward or outward, the knee should be in line with the knee and ankle.
