Hurdle Hops with Split Switch

Hurdle Hops with Split Switch

Coaching Points

  • Split legs over the hurdle: Set up a hurdle or obstacle at an appropriate height and position it in front of you. As you approach the hurdle, focus on splitting your legs by lifting one leg over the hurdle and extending the other leg to the side. This movement resembles a split jump.
  • Alternating legs over each: After clearing the first hurdle, quickly alternate your legs, so the leg that was extended to the side now lifts over the next hurdle while the opposite leg extends to the side. Continue this alternating leg motion as you clear each hurdle.
  • Double hop between: After clearing one hurdle, perform a double hop with both feet together before approaching the next hurdle. This double hop will provide a quick and explosive movement to generate momentum for the next hurdle.
  • Coordinate arm movement: Coordinate your arm movement with your leg motion. As one leg lifts over the hurdle, swing the opposite arm forward to help maintain balance and generate momentum. Keep your arms relaxed and in sync with your leg movements.
  • Practice rhythm and timing: Work on finding a rhythm and timing that allows you to smoothly transition between the split legs over the hurdles, alternating legs, and double hops.
